Gabriel and Clarice de Puritigny are a Swiss couple, by all accounts quiet, middle-aged and set in their ways. He is a successful private banker, while she runs a traditional art gallery in the old town. They live an orderly and contained life in the expensive neighbourhood of Saint Antoine. But are they really contented with their conservative lifestyle? As Switzerland opens up to modernity, cracks begin to appear in their relationship... Clarice develops an interest in modern art, and Gabriel steers his bank into the choppy waters of international finance. Clarice becomes a part of a group of witty, forward-thinking women, and Gabriel starts travelling abroad alone for his work. From the shores of Lake Geneva to the peaks of the Alps, from the icy streets of Chicago to the oil-rich deserts of the Gulf, their lives are in transformation. Will the couple survive in a changing world?

Parker Belmont is the former chairman of a small bank in Switzerland, and held various other directorships in financial institutions across the world, most notably in Switzerland, Germany and the Middle East. This is his first novel, and was inspired by the numerous strange and outlandish characters he met in the world of Swiss banking during the course of his glittering portfolio management career.
